Breathe……take a slow deep breath in.....Calm
Experience the “Ahhh” feeling with Shiatsu. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out on a real treat. It’s probably the best stress reliever you’ll ever find. People often come in feeling strung out, stressed and exhausted but leave feeling like they could conquer the world or at least get the tea on.
Originated in Japan
Shiatsu, a relatively new therapy originating in Japan over 100 years ago, a non-invasive complementary practice. It blends ancient knowledge with modern techniques to enhance the body’s natural ability to balance itself. Often mistaken for traditional massage or acupressure, Shiatsu is a standalone practice using a combination of gentle pressure manipulation and stretching to maintain, restore and enhance the natural flow of vital life force energy.
I don’t need to see your pants
One of the unique things about Shiatsu is that you remain fully clothed during the treatment. In fact, you often see Shiatsu practitioners in offices, treating people while they are sitting at their desks.

Shiatsu is best experienced rather than explained
it can be both invigorating and relaxing at the same time
It's a wonderful feeling, why not give it a try
What is Shiatsu
In essence, it’s a hands-on treatment, done through your own clothing, that helps you de-stress and get your health in balance. It originated in Japan and is now popular all over the world. Whatever reason you come to a Shiatsu session, such as a migraine, digestive problems or stress issues, the treatment will help all of you. Mind, body and spirit.
How does it work?
The world’s leading scientists, including Einstein, have promoted the idea that ‘everything is energy’. Well, Shiatsu works on your body’s energy, known in Japan as Ki (pronounced key) through the manipulation of energy channels in your body called meridians. Using a deep massage and pressure treatment, the flow of energy is released which helps you heal naturally.
How can Shiatsu help?
It’s important to emphasise that it’s a treatment that works on all of you regardless of the condition that brought you to the session, and that the outcomes for everyone are different. But the typical reasons that people come to me include:
-
Shiatsu reduces stress and improves mental health by inducing calm and relaxation. Each session is tailored to the individual’s needs, helping to calm the mind and promote inner peace and grounding.
-
Shiatsu also improves circulation and detoxifies the body. By applying techniques to specific points throughout the body, it increases blood flow and circulation, enhancing overall health and vitality. This improved circulation delivers essential nutrients to the connective tissues.
-
Furthermore, shiatsu enhances range of motion and flexibility. Practitioners work with the recipient’s ability to release muscle tension and tightness. Specific movements and stretches restore joint range of motion and gradually improve flexibility through muscles and connective tissues.

Treatments
What happens during a session?
-
Each session lasts about one hour. The first session may be slightly longer as I need details of your current state of health, any medical conditions, history, and lifestyle.
-
You remain fully clothed at all times (I don’t need to see your pants). The session usually takes place on a padded mat or futon at floor level, although it is possible to receive Shiatsu seated or on a treatment couch.
-
After the treatment, people often talk about feeling invigorated yet relaxed at the same time. I normally recommend that you rest and try to relax after a session to allow your body time to adjust to re-organised the energy flow. Drink a cup or two of warm water.
-
I also recommend that you steer clear of drinking alcohol just before or immediately after your treatment.
How should I prepare for the session?
-
I recommend that you wear loose, warm, comfortable clothing, preferably cotton.
-
Try not to eat anything heavy for a couple of hours before you come.
-
Allow yourself plenty of time so you don’t feel rushed or stressed
either before or after the treatment.

Hello
My name is Clare welcome to my Shiatsu practice in Kendal! With 20 years experience, I graduated from the Shiatsu College Newcastle in 2006, I have been affiliated with the Shiatsu Society for the same number of years. I am passionate about helping people feel better and enhancing their quality of life.
The word Shiatsu conjures up all kinds of different thoughts to different people. I’ve made it my life’s work to demystify this wonderful treatment and tell you why it’s so amazing and how it can help you feel so good.
My journey into Shiatsu began as I sought relief from debilitating migraines, IBS, and the anxiety that accompanied them.
I continued to develop my shiatsu with courses in Shin Tai and now moving towards the Visceral Manipulation and Neural Manipulation with the Barral Institute. All with a focus on working the Hara (Abdominal area) and working to ease tension in the head and body as a whole.
